Twitter: What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing? You tell me!

Recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about Twitter from clients, candidates, and coworkers. I want to know what all of the hype is about! Is it all it is chalked up to be? What are the pros/cons and why would it be better tool than LinkedIn for networking?

I always like to know what is going on so clue me in, folks! My curiousity is peaked!

Check out the poll at the bottom of the page and let me know what you think!

I'm not a fan. Well, I'm starting not to be a fan of everything cause it's just too much accessibility to me. That being said, because my business demands me to be available 24/7, I have a zillion ways for me to be in touch whether by posting or by accessibility.

I have a Facebook page, email, IM from just about every provider and Skype. Having Twitter is just another thing I have to maintain.

BTW, check out the ODS of FL twitter where we twit all the good stuff of ODS. :-)

Megan, Twitter is muck as it is a poor method of blogging live chat.

I have to admit to having an account but it is not in use.

It seems to be full of dizzy people typing the first thing that pops into their head. I found myself reading their rubbish once or twice and realised what a waste of life it was.

Apparently you only have twitter haters subscribing to your blog. :) I have told you before that twitter has been the source of all of my community-based success in that last 6-8 months. It has been incredible. In as much time as gets wasted, I accomplish so much more that would have taken so much more time in the past. There are tons of articles out there showing how valuable twitter can be, and plenty of blog articles on both sides of the argument.

I'll be honest -- I was anti-twitter for a very long time. But guess what? People use it. LOTS of people use it. There's a market there and I decided to jump in. I decided to give it a shot and the more I use it the more I like it.

The twitter website isn't so hot, I prefer to use TweetDeck which drastically changed my impression of twitter. BTW: The latest version integrates with Facebook.

Tweetdeck allows you to created default searches. For example I have a search for any tweets with SharePoint in them. Very helpful.

I now have more than 150 random people "following" me. I see tons of people advertising jobs on there or asking for general help. It is proving to be a very valuable resource but it is what you make it. There are people who post random worthless crap.

You want to market yourself? Why not plug into the twitter community? It's free and it works. Heck, every post I make to my blog gets pushed out to twitter so now I have an even bigger reach. When is that a bad thing?
